Activities
Discover the Amazon Rainforest with Instituto Igapó.
Instituto Igapó connects people with the Amazon through science, conservation, and education.
Our activities include:

Applied Conservation - At Igapó Institute, we believe conservation goes hand in hand with research and it requires direct action. Our future initiatives include wildlife rehabilitation and soft release in partnership with CETAS/IBAMA and the RPPN Sítio Bons Amigos, Amazon river turtle nest protection, as well as caiman population monitoring, and bat ecology research and environmental education, among other activities.
Scientific Ecotourism - Explore the rainforest with expert biologists, observe wildlife, and support conservation and related scientific projects.
Environmental Education - At Instituto Igapó, we believe education is key to conservation. Our programs engage local communities, students, and visitors in learning about the Amazon’s biodiversity and ecological importance.
Symposia and Workshops - Instituto Igapó organizes the annual ISCEA-AM symposium on Amazonian endangered species conservation and offers technical and informal workshops to connect people with the Amazon through hands-on learning.
Bioinformatics Courses - Instituto Igapó offers bioinformatics courses focused on statistical tools for biology, equipping students with essential skills for data analysis in ecological and genetic research.
Fieldwork Courses - Instituto Igapó offers fieldwork courses on biological sampling techniques, providing hands-on training in species monitoring, data collection, and research methods in the Amazon.

Experience the Central Amazon Rainforests
Experience the true diversity of the Amazon Rainforests first-hand! Venture through distinct ecosystems (different types of forests and rivers)—from the ancient Guiana Shield with its caves and waterfalls to the dynamic black and white water rivers, each home to unique wildlife. Travel by boat in Anavilhanas archipelago, snorkel in crystal-clear streams teeming with beautiful fish (some often considered "ornamental") and aquatic plants, explore the forest at night to uncover its elusive nocturnal creatures, and witness landscapes where science is still uncovering new species. The central Amazon is a hotspot of geological and biological richness—come and see it for yourself! And the best part is that you are going to live all of it with experienced biologists and parataxonomists from local communities who call the Amazon home, all of it while supporting our NGO activities for conservation and education. Travel with meaning and explore a yet poorly known Amazon by most travelers.
